Jaguar XJR15

Jaguar XJR15

The Jaguar XJR15 arrived at Xero in a terrible state of affairs.

It had be sat on a dockside for 10 years and had become the tender home of rats, one of which was found in the car during it's restoration. They had dragged all kinds of 'bedding' material into the car, in fact there was so much it blocked the vacuum cleaner being used to suck them all out. They'd even manage to chew through part of the wiring loom, (fortunately just 2 injector wires had been cut). During it's time at Xero, the XJR15 was COMPLETELY stripped down, there was just one bolt that refused to be removed (screwed into a hardpoint in the carbon tub holding down a seatbelt bracket). Some bolts had to have their heads slotted and removal commenced with an impact driver. Some bolts had completely disintegrated in situe. But it all came apart. Each bit was removed, cleaned, inspected, and replaced if necessary. All the aluminium pipework was removed from the car, even the bits in the side pods, and was repaired then re-anodised, to take care of the fading that had occured over the years. Even the block was cleaned and polished, such was the attention to detail. Work started early 2007 and finished mid 2008.

The paintwork had been matched (a Landrover blue, of all colours), and each panel was painted to finish off the look. The wishbones were treated with a special (biological based) treatment to remove the corrosion (the same treatment used to remove corrosion from ancient artifacts), they were then checked using NDT (Non Destructive Testing) methods. New parts were sourced from and XJR15 'boffin' who gladly sourced and exchanged parts (light and engine covers, and a double front seat) in return for mould tools off other parts, produced by Xero's Composite department. Once finished the XJR15 looked up to showroom specification, almost brand new.
